Boca Juniors have officially announced that English Premier League club Chelsea have activated the buyout clause for Aaron Anselmino, which will allow the young defender to continue his career at Stamford Bridge from January 1.
Aged 19, Anselmino was sold to Chelsea in June for $18 million, with a loan deal keeping him at Boca until June 2025. However, the Blues will now pay an extra $1 million to bring him back to London earlier than expected.
During his time at Boca, Anselmino has had injury problems, suffering four muscle tears this season. His first injury came in April against Sportivo Trinidense in the second match of the Copa Sudamericana group stage. After returning to training in May, he experienced further failure and only returned to the field on June 14, but was forced to leave the field in tears during a match against Vélez. He continued to experience problems, and on November 10, in a match against Sarmiento, he had to be replaced at halftime due to the same injury concerns. This match marked his last appearance in the Boca jersey.
