An oil tanker belonging to the Russian ghost fleet is linked to the incident in the Baltic Sea over Christmas. According to Finland, the ship caused the breakdown of an underwater cable.

Suspected of having damaged an electrical cable linking Finland and Estonia, the ship Eagle S is known to belong to the Russian ghost fleet.

The 228 meter long tanker, which sails under the flag of the Cook Islands, is said by Finnish police to have caused the breakdown of a submarine cable in the Baltic Sea on December 25.
Three days later, Helsinki, which opened an investigation into sabotage, announced that it had seized and moved the ship under escort to a port near the capital.
Recently, several similar incidents have taken place in the Baltic Sea.
Actions which target in particular communications and energy infrastructures, in this sea, which is bordered by Russia and eight NATO member countries.
In mid-November, a similar incident occurred, this time involving a Chinese-flagged ship.
Despite suspicions hanging over Russia or China in these multiple cases, the criminal responsibility of the two countries could not be clearly established.
