In a significant shake-up heading into the new year, AC Milan have officially terminated their contract with coach Paulo Fonseca and named veteran tactician Sergio Conceicao as his successor, the club announced on Monday.

In a statement released by the club, they expressed their gratitude to Fonseca, highlighting his professionalism and wishing him the best for his future projects. “The club thanks Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the best for the future,” the statement said.

Fonseca took charge of Milan in June, enjoying a promising start to the season with a five-game unbeaten run. However, things took a turn for the worse as the season progressed, with the Rossoneri finishing with a disappointing record of 12 wins, 6 draws and 5 defeats in the final 23 games of his tenure, culminating with a total of 15 wins, 6 draws and 7 defeats.

Sergio Conceicao arrives at the legendary San Siro following a successful spell at Porto, where he was in charge since 2017. His tenure at the Portuguese giants ended in June, just days after leading the team to Portuguese Cup victory .

Milan welcome Sergio and his staff with open arms, looking forward to a revitalized approach moving forward. “The club welcomes Sergio and his staff, wishing him a journey full of success and fulfillment,” added the club.

Currently, the Rossoneri find themselves in a difficult position, occupying eighth place in the Serie A standings with a record of 7 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats. In European competition, they rank 12th in the Champions League standings, having achieved 4 wins and 2 losses in the tournament so far.
