The alert was given around 3:30 a.m. on the night of December 30. A fire, probably started deliberately, reached the telecommunications pylon of Cenves, a town bordering the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire, very close to Mâcon and Solutré. The damage is very extensive.
Contacted, TDF speaks of “heavy damage” and indicates at midday that approximately “800,000 people” are concerned. Sectors concerned: the radio network in Mâcon, Bourg-en-Bresse, part of Villefranche-sur-Saône and part of Chalon-sur-Saône.
On the telephone side, the telephone network is cut and “all operators are concerned” :
Internet, on the other hand, is not affected for subscribers who use fiber. But “3G, 4G or 5G may be disrupted”specifies TDF.
“We are well aware of the emergency and all teams are working to restore the network as quickly as possible”assures TDF which hopes for almost 100% recovery within 24 to 48 hours. “A large part of the cable was damaged.”
TDF teams and the police are on site. According to initial findings, everything suggests that the fire was of criminal origin. “It’s not the first time” that television broadcasting sites are targeted by malicious acts, adds TDF. This summer on the sidelines of the Olympic Games, a small anarchist group claimed responsibility for the fire on a relay antenna in Occitanie, leaving a tag “No JO.”
