Algeria
– Dahbia Ayad was elected president of the Algerian Gymnastics Federation (FAG) for the 2025-2028 Olympic mandate, following the Elective General Assembly (AGE) held at the “Rabah Chebah” Conference Hall of the Olympic Committee and Algerian sportsman (COA) in Algiers. This election marks an important turning point for Algerian gymnastics, with the hope of strengthening the positive dynamic initiated in recent years. Ayad obtained the majority with 20 votes, against 16 for his competitor Rabah Mekachi, in an election which reflected the growing interest in the development of this discipline in Algeria.

In her post-election speech, Dahbia Ayad expressed gratitude to the members of the Assembly for the trust placed in her and the entire elected federal office. She affirmed her determination to work collectively to raise the level of Algerian gymnastics, while emphasizing the importance of continuing on the path traced by recent successes. “I am very happy today with my election and I thank the members of the Assembly for the trust they wanted to place in us (president and members of the federal office). We will, all together, do our best to further raise the level of gymnastics and continue the momentum of the results obtained so far by our Olympic and world champion Kaylia Nemour. The best is yet to come,” she said enthusiastically.

The position of president of the Algerian Gymnastics Federation had been vacant since April 2023. A provisional commission headed by Ali Zaatar had been set up by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure the management of the current affairs of the Federation. This transitional period made it possible to organize this election, impatiently awaited by those in the sporting world. Dahbia Ayad, already involved in the world of gymnastics as a national coach and judge, now has the opportunity to direct and supervise this discipline to meet the expectations of athletes and amateurs.

This election comes in a context of major challenges for Algerian gymnastics, particularly on a technical and organizational level. Under the new presidency, the FAG will not only have to continue the remarkable performances achieved by athletes like Kaylia Nemour, but also work to develop a solid and competitive next generation. The success of this mandate will depend on the ability to mobilize the necessary resources to support clubs, coaches and young talents. Dahbia Ayad, with her experience and her passion for gymnastics, will have to implement an ambitious strategy to achieve these objectives and propel Algerian gymnastics to an even higher level.
