Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 75, will be hospitalized on Sunday to undergo prostate removal after he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection resulting from benign prostatic hypertrophy, his office announced today. Saturday evening, reports Reuters.
According to the statement, “Bibi” was examined at a hospital this week and diagnosed with a urinary tract infection caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office added that since then the prime minister has received antibiotic treatment to clear up the infection, and it was then decided that he would undergo the procedure.
Netanyahu underwent an examination at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem on Wednesday, “where he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection due to benign prostatic hypertrophy,” his teams said in another statement.
“The Prime Minister will therefore undergo prostate removal tomorrow (Sunday),” they added. The prime minister’s office added that Sunday’s cabinet meeting will take place as planned, but it was not clear whether Netanyahu will attend.
The Israeli leader had already had surgery for a hernia in March and underwent another operation in July 2023 for the implantation of a pacemaker. Doctors who treated the executive at Sheba Medical Center said after the operation that the heart monitoring device implanted the week before had detected a “malfunction in the heart rhythm,” leading to the decision to implant the pacemaker.
