Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen are both under pressure to show their class in the last 32 at the PDC World Championship on Saturday night.
Luc Littler booked their place in the round of 16 of the PDC World Championship with a 4-1 victory over Ian Blanc.
The teenager is tipped to get his hands on the trophy at Alexandra Palace in early 2025, but he will need to find additional equipment to make that happen.
Despite winning with 12,180 and an average of 98.8, Littler saw White waste darts during two of the sets he lost before seeing Littler take advantage.
White turned back the clock by averaging 96.54 himself, but it was 16 missed doubles out of 24 attempts that ultimately cost him the chance to pull off the upset.
Littler is now moving towards a meeting with Ryan Joycewho recorded a 4-3 success on Ryan Searle early Saturday.
Van Gerwen defied the riposte of Dolan
Michael van Gerwen showed glimmers of his best form as he recorded a 4-2 win over Brendan Dolan.
Despite losing the first set, the three-time world champion found a way to win eight successive sets to move within a set of one place in the fourth round.
However, his Northern Irish opponent took advantage of 10 missed doubles in the fifth set to prolong the match before missing a dart on the bull to force a decider.
Van Gerwen secured victory with the final dart of his next visit to progress with 10,180 and an average of 97.01, with a checkout of 149 being the highlight of the match.
In the meantime, Chris Dobey won with a score of 4-2 against Josh Rocherthe Tyneside hurler bounces back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1.
The momentum was with Rock as he averaged over 105 to win the third set, but he would only win three more rounds as Dobey’s scoring power took over.
Although Rock averaged 106.18 in the sixth set, Dobey posted a 108 average with no missed double attempts to book his place in the final 16.
