The Aubenas police officers in Ardèche arrested a man for a simple check before realizing that he had been wanted for 2 years, because he had not returned to his remand center.
They say that chance does things well. This is what happened Thursday afternoon in Aubenas in Ardèche. The police decide to check a man and notice that he has a small piece of cannabis resin on him. The man does not have any identification, so he is taken to the police station where he provides a false identity.
The Ardèche police quickly noticed the deception. They are stunned when they realize that they are facing a prisoner on the run. The man was incarcerated at the Pontet remand center in Vaucluse. After a leave of absence in 2022, he never returned behind bars, says The Dauphiné Libéré.
A search of the suspect's body revealed a knife and thirteen pieces of cannabis resin, or a little more than 25 grams.
This 34-year-old man, originally from Gard, is homeless.
Brought before a magistrate on Friday, he was placed in detention and will be tried on Monday, December 30.
