Alpine skiing – Cyprien Sarrazin’s operation after his fall in Bormio “went well” according to the FFS

This is very good news from the French Ski Federation this Saturday morning, the day after the terrible fall of French skier Cyprien Sarrazin during the last training session of the Bormio desente (Italy). In a press release, the latter indicated that the French skier “was operated on during the night to decompress his intracranial hematoma. The operation went well, he remains under anesthesia for the moment.”

Cyprien Sarrazin, world number 2 in downhill last winter, fell on Friday during the second training session for the World Cup downhill in Bormio, the start of which will be given this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Best time of the first training the day before and in the lead during each intermediate time of this second training, the Frenchman, who won the descent of Bormio just a year ago, lost control of his skis on the last difficulty of the Stelvio track.

A track considered too dangerous

He literally flew away on a movement of the ground before landing suddenly and being stopped by the protective nets after a long slide. After twenty minutes of treatment, Sarrazin, aged 30, was airlifted to the hospital in a neighboring town of Bormio. The FFS quickly indicated that he was “aware“, before explaining late Friday afternoon that he suffered from an intracranial hematoma, requiring an intervention to drain it.

Two other skiers were seriously injured during this second training session, reigniting criticism of the preparation of the Stelvio, one of the most difficult slopes on the circuit where the men’s alpine skiing events at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan Cortina will take place.
