On Wednesday, it was around 10:30 p.m. that the emergency services were alerted when a fire had just broken out in the attic of a home, located at the corner of rue de la Poste and impasse de la Glycine, in Cuxac-Cabardès. According to our information, the fire started from a poorly swept chimney flue, after an old oil boiler was relit.
Very quickly, firefighters from the Cuxac-Cabardès, Salsigne and Carcassonne emergency centers were involved in this intervention, with several fire vehicles and large scales. Thanks to the effective fight carried out by the fire fighters, the fire did not spread to neighboring homes and the roof was able to be saved. On the other hand, due to an emanation of carbon dioxide (odorless and colorless, editor’s note) noted by the firefighters, around ten people had to be evacuated from neighboring homes as a precaution.
These people were temporarily kept safe in a room opened by the town hall of Cuxac-Cabardès, for the occasion. “This house is no longer inhabited by its owner, it is family from outside who came to spend the holidays here”underlines the mayor of Cuxac-Cabardès Paul Griffe. And to greet “the rapid intervention of the village firefighters, which certainly made it possible to avoid the worst while waiting for reinforcements”.
