New qualifiers validated their tickets this Saturday for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). DR Congo performed well in front of their home crowd, while Ivory Coast was disillusioned against a conquering Burkina Faso.
Held in check (1-1) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the RDC enforced logic in the return match of the second preliminary round of the CHAN 2024. In its lair of the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa, the Leopards A’ in fact disposed of their opponents from Chad with a score of 3-1.
The young Oscar Kabwit of TP Mazembe quickly opened the score in the 10th minute of play. But the Chadians, who were boldly playing their chances with a view to qualifying for the very first final phase in their history, equalized 13 minutes later through Ahmat Abdraman (23rd).

The Leopards A’ then moved up a notch in the second half. Jonathan Mokonzi thus restored the advantage in the 48th before Nyembo Ntumba put his team away definitively with a third Congolese goal in the 52nd.
Meanwhile, at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako, Mali, the Ivory Coast squandered its two-goal lead obtained in the first leg against Burkina Faso. Indeed, N’Dri Koffi Christian Romaric’s men were equalized throughout the matches following the achievements of Aboubacar Traoré and Franck Kanté in the 31st and 54th minutes respectively. The Stallions A’ finally won on penalties by converting 4 attempts against 2 for the Ivorians.
