Bamba had just won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title on December 21, less than a week before his death.
On December 24, he posted a lengthy message on Instagram just before Christmas, reflecting on his success this year.
“This year, I set out with a goal. That's exactly what I did! It hasn’t been easy, there have been many obstacles that I have overcome and stayed on the path we set, regardless of the extenuating circumstances,” Bamba wrote in his caption.
“14 fights, 14 knockouts ending in the WBA GOLD cruiserweight world title,” Bamba continued, adding: “Blessed to have my family, my team and all my supporters along the way. That being said, if you've achieved what some might call an “extravagant goal”, go for it. Anyone who thinks it's not as brave as you, prove people wrong! »
