From December 28, USB-C connectivity becomes mandatory for many products as part of the implementation of the universal charger. Devices lacking them are therefore withdrawn from the market.
L’ANFR – National Frequency Agency – reminds us that the universal charger is mandatory from this December 28, 2024.
This accessory uses USB-C connectivity.
Accordingly, the presence of a USB-C port is also becoming mandatory for many devices.
But the introduction of the universal charger also implies the separate sale of devices and their charger.
The ANFR explains that it is:
to offer users the choice when making a purchase. This device is part of an approach to environmental protection, by reducing the volume of electronic waste, and simplification, by putting an end to the problem of different chargers for each device.
The directive initially applies to a wide range of electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, portable game consoles, portable speakers, keyboards, mice, VR headsets and e-readers
Consequently, from December 28, the products concerned must must be sold in a USB-C variant or with a USB-C adapter.
THE PC portables they have a deadline :
Manufacturers and sellers of laptops have until April 26, 2026 to comply and allow this same universal USB Type-C charger to be able to charge all electronic devices, including laptops.
