Actress Olivia Hussey died on Friday December 27, her family announced. British actress, known for her role in the film Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli, released in 1968, died at the age of 73.
“Olivia was a remarkable person whose warmth, wisdom and pure kindness touched the lives of all who knew her,” her family wrote on their Instagram account.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Olivia Hussey was 15 when she and her partner Leonard Whiting, then 16, played the famous lovers in this adaptation of William Shakespeare’s great classic. For this role, the British actress won a Golden Globe, that of “New Star of the Year”. The film won two Academy Awards.
In 2023, Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting filed a complaint against the studio Paramount Pictures for a scene of non-consensual nudity. A judge nevertheless rejected this complaintproving the famous American studio right. The British actress has also appeared in films Black Christmas (1974) et Death on the Nile (1978).
