At the age of 21, Nitish Kumar Reddy made his mark in cricket history. On the third day of the Boxing Day Test, he demonstrated his emerging talent by scoring his maiden Test half-century. His impressive performance saw him reach an impressive 81-ball innings against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
New Delhi: Nitish Kumar Reddy grabbed headlines by scoring his first-ever Test fifty on the third day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. On December 28, he celebrated this milestone, managing to reach his half-century off just 81 balls while managing the difficult conditions India faced.
At just 21 years old, Reddy has shown impressive form during the series, making crucial runs in the previous matches. He put in remarkable performances with scores of 41 and an unbeaten 38 in the Perth Test, as well as a solid 42 in the day-night warm-up match at Manuka Oval. Even though India did not win the Adelaide Test, Reddy's consecutive scores of 42 demonstrated his determination and talent.
To commemorate his memorable feat, Reddy paid homage to popular culture by imitating a well-known move from the hit Telugu film 'Pushpa', which was a huge success at the box office. This celebration highlights not only his enthusiasm but also his connection to his heritage and the cultural significance of the film.
With this performance, Reddy positioned himself among the legends of Indian cricket, joining Anil Kumble as one of the few No. 8 batsmen to notch a half-century in Australia. This achievement places him in the company of renowned players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin, further cementing his legacy in the sport.
Reddy's journey in the limelight began with a remarkable performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024, where he accumulated 303 runs in 13 matches. His consistent ability to perform at the highest level for India is a testament to his effort and dedication, making him a promising player to watch out for in the future.
