Me Khaled Bourayou buried yesterday in Garidi: Plea for an honorary lawyer

There were hundreds of people who accompanied, yesterday after the El Asr prayer, the late and brilliant lawyer, Me Khaled Bourayou, to his final resting place at the Garidi cemetery, on the heights of Algiers. Journalists, politicians, senior officials, lawyers, judges and national figures paid a final tribute to a defender of justice, freedom of the press and freedom in general. This lawyer who made his profession of lawyer a true priesthood in the service of freedom will undoubtedly have left his mark on Algerian justice. His journey is absolutely atypical. The noble fight of Khaled Bourayou merges with that of journalists, particularly during the dark decade. Everyone will remember a man who walked his imposing figure in the editorial offices of the major Algerian newspapers, to provide advice and assistance to journalists and media managers, who were in trouble with the law. And for good reason! Me Bourayou was so linked to the Algerian press that some even thought he was a journalist or editor! He was tireless in his defense of the profession, which was highlighted by his masterful pleadings which did honor to justice in general. Khaled Bourayou was a lawyer like no other. An exceptional lawyer who did his job with love, conviction and a good conscience. He was keen to push Algerian justice towards virtuous perspectives and thereby free journalists in the exercise of their mission, in the service of a free and happy Algeria. Above all, the late Khaled Bourayou was an inveterate patriot, an unrepentant lover of Algeria, proud and dignified, but also free of the slag that stuck to its skin. He will go down in history as an example of an advocate of just causes and a defender of human rights and freedoms. Yesterday, at the Garidi cemetery, this meritorious plea was made, unanimously, by all the people, from different backgrounds, who came to express their gratitude and respect for his great service. It is indeed rare to see so many journalists and editors gathered to say goodbye to a man who is not from the corporation. This is because Khaled Bourayou is not just any lawyer: he has established himself as a radiant figure in the media and legal landscape. Through his services and his fights, he will have brought together two professions which are supposed to be two pillars of the rule of law. The young lawyers who came yesterday should take note. May the soul of our great friend rest in peace and may God grant him his holy mercy. In these painful circumstances, the director and editorial staff of L'Est Républicain share the pain of the family of the deceased and assure them of their support.

It's just B.
