On the eve of his last match of 2024, Portel coach Eric Girard gave his opinion on the new LNB regulations concerning the transfer window. Since this season, the National Basketball League has adopted a principle of limiting changes in rosters: between the first day and February 28, clubs will only be able to make three adjustments maximum. After February 28, two medical freelancers may be added in the event of a long-term injury.
“This penalizes us”
At mid-season, Le Portel is one of the clubs having already made two changes to their squad, with the arrivals of DeOndre Burns (1.90 m, 27 years old) and Mathieu Boyer (2.05 m, 29 years old). Except that the injury after just one match for the American fullback (knee), whose return is scheduled for early January, came at a bad time for the ESSM. So, just before facing SLUC Nancy for the 14th day of Betclic ELITE, Eric Girard gave a critical opinion to The Voice of the North on the new LNB regulations.
“This year, the rules have changed. It's absurd. Not only are we only allowed a few non-medical jokers, but we also have to pay a fine for each modification. The first is €2,500 donated to the League, the second is €10,000 and the third is €15,000. This penalizes us because when you don't have money, you make bets. If they are not good humanly or sportingly, you are obliged to rectify them. Richer clubs have fewer bets to make. »
While Deondre Burns has not yet been able to play in Betclic ELITE with Le Portel (injured in a friendly at the end of November), the latter hopes to have bet on the right player with the American full-back. After 13 Betclic ELITE matches, the Stella club is penultimate, with 3 wins for 10 defeats. This Friday, December 27, he welcomes SLUC Nancy to the Chaudron (6 p.m.).
