It was a little before 11:30 a.m. this Friday, December 27 when the fire was reported, along rue Christian-Barnard, at the entrance to the artisanal zone of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne.
A vehicle fire
It started as a vehicle fire, which quickly spread to an industrial building. Help rushed to the scene, around twenty firefighters and six machines, including a ladder on a lifting arm.
A security perimeter was set up to facilitate extinguishing operations, and taking into account the risk of explosion of the vehicle's fuel tank.

The flames quickly spread to the building
According to various witnesses, the fire of accidental origin broke out on this car parked along the facade of this building shared by several businesses, including a vehicle repair workshop, at the corner of Barnard and Etang Tenay streets. The flames quickly reached the building through a window, progressing inside to reach the roof.
The firefighters extinguished the vehicle which had caught fire, and thoroughly watered the building in order to stop the spread of the fire, which threatened to spread to other adjoining buildings. A surveillance system was maintained on site for part of the afternoon, after the extinguishing by the firefighters.
