David versus Goliath adapted on TF1. Indeed, this Friday, December 27, 2024, the front page officially launches its new program in which ordinary candidates face impressive athletes through several intense physical tests: Gladiators.
French viewers, who are used to following American programs, already know this show. Indeed, across the Atlantic, it has existed since 1989. As for the French version, it will be a mix of cult shows such as Intervilles et Ninja Warriors.
The concept of the game
But what is the concept of Gladiators ? As mentioned above, ordinary candidates will try to beat athletes with extraordinary skills. By trying, for example, to climb a climbing wall, while being chased by “gladiators”. At the end of the game, a man and a woman will share the sum of €50,000.
The gladiators Titanium, Phoenix, Electra, Féroce, Comet, etc., are made up of eight men and eight women. They all play a character, with a heroic name. They also have their own costumes, or even their own music.
“We are in a real sporting competition with real rules, it’s physical but there is also a very humorous tone”indicated producer Matthieu Grelier, to our colleagues at Télé-Loisirs.
The hosts of “Gladiators”
It will be from this Friday, December 27, 2024, 9:10 p.m., that the candidates will attempt to pass the various tests of the program. For each of the episodes, although we do not yet know the total number, four challengers and four challengers will attempt to pass the tests of Gladiators. At the end of each episode, one man and one woman will qualify for the final stages.
In terms of animation, viewers of TF1 will not be lost. Indeed, they will be able to count on the presence of the emblematic presenter of Koh Lanta et Ninja Warrior, Denis Brogniart.
He will be accompanied by the former presenter of Who wants to make millionsat the helm of Miss France for several years: Jean-Pierre Foucault. A duo which will be supported by host Hélène Mannarino, presenter of C Canteloupevery evening of the week on TF1.
“I did Interville for five years, and this is Interville without the cows”joked Jean-Pierre Foucault. While Denis Brogniart will comment on the matches in his cabin.
“We have the dream trio. We respected the original format: a duo of animators in the arena, who launch the game and collect impressions. There is also a commentator who explains the rules and who deciphers, makes live history. We immediately thought of Denis Brogniart in this role, who is both a great entertainment presenter and a great sports journalist, announcer of the Olympic Games.rejoices producer Matthieu Grelier.
The filming location
Regarding the filming location of Gladiatorsthe show was filmed at the Cergy ice rink, in the Paris region, for six days. A completely transformed ice rink for the program TF1.
“We had an imperative to have a place with floor dimensions that would allow the installation of the games.”explains the producer before specifying: “It's 60 by 30 meters. The rink offers the dimensions we needed, no TV set had that.”
