The successes of Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov continue in the KHL.
The fifth pick in the last NHL draft scored a goal and added two assists, scoring in a fourth straight game and helping SKA St. Petersburg to a 5-4 victory over HC Sochi on Friday.
Demidov was initially complicit in his teammate Mikhail Grigorenko’s goal in the first period. Off-balance along the ramp on the left flank, the forward maintained possession of the puck before serving a cross-ice pass to Grigorenko, who took a one-timer to score on the power play.
Then, as his team tried to tie the game in the third period, Demidov cut the lead to just one goal when he pounced on a loose puck in the right faceoff circle, before slotting it in. over the shoulder of the Sochi goalkeeper for his 10th goal of the season.
Demidov collected his second assist of the game on Alexander Nikishin’s tying goal with less than five minutes remaining in the final period.
Demidov and his SKA teammates will now enjoy a week off before their next match on January 3 against CSKA Moscow.
