Inter-lane traffic for motorcycles and scooters: the authorization was to end on January 1, 2025, it is finally extended until July
Cross-line circulation for motorized two-wheelers has been under experimentation since 2016. This was extended in 2021 to 21 departments (including the Pyrénées-Orientales) with a strict framework. This phase was initially due to end on December 31, 2024 and users who were fans of this practice feared it would disappear. This is not yet the case since the government has decided to further extend this experimental period until July 31, 2025. This decision was made public in the Official Journal of December 31, 2024.
The terms of application of queue escalation therefore do not change:
- motorcyclists and scooter riders are authorized to travel between lines of vehicles when traffic is dense, on motorways and expressways separated by a central reservation, where the maximum authorized speed is greater than or equal to 70 km/h;
- motorized two-wheelers must not exceed 50 km/h in these conditions;
- the speed differential with light vehicles and others must not exceed 30 km/h;
- Failure to comply with these conditions results in a withdrawal of 3 points from the driving license and a fixed fine of €135.
