After several days of absence due to illness, Belgian Wout Van Aert was finally able to face his Dutch rival Mathieu van der Poel in Loenhout (Belgium). And it was MVDP, in great form since the start of the World Cup, who was in the lead throughout the race and therefore finished in first place (58′11). Wout Van Aert arrives in fourth position following a fall in the last lap which made him lose his chances for the podium.
Van der Poel ends Wout Van Aert’s streak of two victories at Loenhout. He won his fourth success in a row and has a total of five victories at Loenhout since 2017, not counting the year 2020 when the race was canceled due to Covid.
On the podium, 14 seconds after Mathieu van der Poel, the Belgian Thibau Nys, second, is followed by Laurens Sweeck, beaten in the final sprint. The two rivals Wout Van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel have two confrontations left before the end of this World Cup, the next of which is in Dendermonde on January 5.
