For the first time since 2019, Nancy gains a few residents

At the end of the year, INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies) has just published its latest figures concerning the population of French municipalities as of January 1, 2022.

Unlike previous years, the population of Nancy is increasing (+127 inhabitants between 2021 and 2022) but this increase remains lower than the neighboring metropolises of Strasbourg (+396) and Metz (+821).

Here is the data to remember.

The population in Nancy still lower than before Covid

As of January 1, 2022, the city of Nancy had 104 387 habitants. For the first time since 2019, the ducal city sees its population very slightly increase compared to the previous year.

However, this number remains lower than the period before the Covid-19 epidemic. In 2019, Nancy counted 105 058 habitants.

She stays there 5th most populous city in the Grand Estahead of Strasbourg, Reims, Metz and Mulhouse. However, the gap is narrowing significantly with Mulhouse which now has 104,924 inhabitants, a loss of 1,417 souls in one year.

• Jarville-la-Malgrange: 9,362 inhabitants (-12)
• Tomblaine: 9,040 inhabitants (+ 21)
• Essey-lès-Nancy: 8,733 inhabitants (- 49)
• Malzéville: 7,818 inhabitants (- 109)
• Laneuveville-devant-Nancy: 6,595 inhabitants (+ 44)
• Ludres: 5,899 inhabitants (- 182)
• Heillecourt : 5 396 habitants (+ 19)
• Seichamps : 5 155 habitants (+ 14)
• Pulnoy: 5,123 inhabitants (- 21)
• Saulxures-lès-Nancy: 4,306 inhabitants (+ 21)
• Fléville-devant-Nancy: 2,187 inhabitants (-15)
• Houdemont: 2,069 inhabitants (- 7)
• Art-sur-Meurthe: 1,696 inhabitants (+ 36)
• Dommartemont: 567 inhabitants (-3)

In total, the Greater Nancy metropolis gained 796 citizens in one year to reach 258 208 habitants.
