Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is described by Universal as «a mythic action epic filmed around the world using brand-new IMAX technology. The film is epic, the cast is stellar che comprende Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway e Charlize Theron.
It is not the first time that Nolan – also a screenwriter and producer together with his wife Emma Thomas with Syncopy Films – has attempted a film with a historical setting. Just think about The Prestige, Dunkirk or at the very last Oppenheimer but the adaptation of the Odyssey still represents a notable change. Homer's epic poem dates back to the 8th century BC and in addition to telling the story of Odysseus, it talks about deities, monstrous creatures and legends: thematic material that the British director has never brought to the big screen until now. The Odyssey has already been adapted for film several times, as in Ulysses from 1954 with Kirk Douglas, and also the comedy by the Coen brothers Brother, where are you? it is freely inspired by the Homeric poem.
