At the age of 13, Romano Mussolini joined Lazio Rome, a club notorious for its connections with the Italian far right. Apart from the excesses of its spectators, the Roman club was at the heart of controversies in 2005 when its striker Paolo di Canio performed several Roman salutes during matches against AS Roma, Livorno and Juventus Turin. He then received the support of Alessandra Mussolini, who declared: “How happy this Roman salute gives me. » Since January 2024, this salute constitutes an offense of advocating fascism, as ruled by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation.
