Il United States Congress has approved the law that avoids the shutdownaverting a Christmas government shutdown after weeks of tense, last-minute negotiations and passing a bill to fund federal agencies through mid-March.
Since the midnight deadline had already passed just a few minutes ago, senators abandoned the normal procedure to speed up the vote on the package, saving Christmas for more than 800,000 workers who were at risk of being sent home without pay.
“It's good news that the bipartisan approach ultimately prevailed… It's a good outcome for America and for the American people,” Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a Senate speech.
