The French General Directorate of Foreign Intelligence (DGSE) announced, December 19, 2024, that the four French officials accused of espionage and detained for a year in Burkina Faso have been released and confirmed the information spread by the Moroccan press.
President Emmanuel Macron “spoke yesterday, Wednesday 18 December 2024, by telephone with His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, to thank him warmly for the success of his mediation which made possible the release of our four compatriots detained for a year in Burkina Faso,” explained the Elysée.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad of Morocco had, in fact, underlined that “following the mediation of His Majesty the King, His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Traoré, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso, has responded favorably to your request to release four French citizens, detained in Ouagadougou since December 2023.
This humanitarian act was made possible thanks to the excellent relations between King Mohammed VI and President Traoré and the excellent relations that have long united the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Burkina Faso as well as those with France and the French people, the Moroccan ministry specifies in a press release.
