Orange and Kiwi
Liam Lawson is Red Bull’s new driver for the 2025 season and will join Max Verstappen next year. As we had anticipated, after the farewell of Sergio Perez, the trust of the Milton Keynes team went to the young talent coming from the Academy, who beat the competition of Yuki Tsunoda and will therefore replace the Mexican as teammate of the four-time world champion next season.
Red Bull itself confirmed this a little while ago. It’s quite impressive to think that the next one will be Lawson’s first full championship in F1. The agreement, according to what emerges from the press release, concerns 2025 and therefore does not appear to be multi-year. Lawson will therefore have to earn his stay in the team on the field.
DTM and F2 in its past
Born on 11 February 2002 in Hastings, New Zealand, in recent months Lawson has always been considered the favorite to race at the wheel of the RB21 if Perez was left behind and will be called upon to confirm the good things he showed in his first 11 GPs in Formula 1. The New Zealander finds himself facing a very difficult challengealready failed by Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon and Perez himself: stay “to the wheel” by Verstappen, accustomed in recent years to demolishing every teammate.
In the last few years before starting to frequent the F1 paddock assiduously, Lawson achieved the best results in the championships in which he participated second place overall in the 2021 DTM and one third place in the F2 general classification in 2022after finishing ninth the previous year.
