Paris Saint-Germain got a big win yesterday in Ligue 1 against Monaco, one of Ligue 1’s few rivals, won almost every year by PSG recently, and now on track to win again, with a lead of 10 points on Marseille, Monaco and Lille.
The 4-2 match played at the Stade Louis II in Monaco ended horribly for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who suffered a chilling kick in the face from Ivorian defender Wilfried Singo. Donnarumma was immediately replaced after just 20 minutes of play, after suffering facial trauma with multiple cuts. He will have to undergo medical tests and will have to rest for “several days”, reads the medical update issued by the club.

The studs of Singo’s boots stuck in Donnarumma’s face, who was seen bleeding from cuts, which had to be stapled. It was a purely accidental action: Donnarumma slipped to stop the ball, and Singo didn’t have time to move and jumped trying to avoid the goalkeeper, with the bad luck that the sole of his boot hit him directly on the cheek. Luckily, it didn’t reach his eye.
Singo avoided the red card as the referee concluded it was accidental, despite the danger it posed. Donnarumma was replaced by Matvey Safonov. Immediately after the match, Singo approached Donnarumma and apologised, and both were seen shaking hands and smiling in a video published by PSG.
Gianluigi Donnarumma will most likely miss PSG’s next match, a French Cup round of 16 match on Sunday. The next match will be the French Super Cup on January 5, 2025, which is also against Monaco…
