Usyk-Fury 2, the prediction of the Italian heavyweights – Paolo Vidoz: “I’m rooting for the Englishman, but I think the reigning champion will win”

The last Italian to graduate European champion heavyweight is called Paolo Vidoz and today he is a restaurateur in the province of Goriziaa stone’s throw from Slovenia. With a farm to manage, inside and outside the kitchen, he has little time to follow boxing, but for Usyk-Fury 2 he will certainly glance at his cell phone between one customer and another, between a dish and a joke. Or he will recover on Sunday morning highlights of the match. Vidoz, who as an amateur was also a bronze medalist at Olympics in Sydney 2000always remains a fun guy. His place is a collection of objects religiousboxing memorabilia from his career, agricultural tools and, to make sure nothing is missing, even two barber chairs.

How do you think Usyk-Fury 2 will go?
I support Fury, but I think Usyk will win.

Why?
I support Fury because he is a big character who fills stadiums and is loved by the public, especially in England. But Usyk is more technical and also a little younger, I have always been a technician and I am still convinced that technique prevails over strength.

What will be the future of the Ukrainian and the Englishman after this match?
If Usyk wins the third match will not take place. I was disappointed that the English Fury-Joshua derby was not organised, which would have been a great boost for world boxing even more than Saturday’s match.

In the queen category, who will be the real protagonist of 2025?
I don’t follow the scene very much, I tell the truth. I only keep up to date on social media, which shows you what they want. I saw that last Saturday Kubrat Pulev won the WBA heavyweight belt, I fought with him fourteen years ago: then he didn’t seem so powerful to me but rather a determined guy who wanted to go all the way, I was at the end of my career and he tried to put me down but he didn’t make it!

In Italy, how is the situation in this category and in general in the others?
I hope someone new comes out, but I don’t think there’s anything sensational. Maybe I’ll come back and do like Mike Tyson, but I still have time to get to his age, in the meantime, while I’m running around in my club I’m fighting against triglycerides and uric acids, a match which I’m also losing. I had also signed up to the gym, I paid for the membership and I wasted 50 euros. However, I wanted to add that even boxing fans don’t follow our sport today, the customers of my place have remained, I’m not talking about Benvenuti’s time but those of Tyson, Mike Tyson.
