In a series of interviews granted in the last few hours, the director James Gunn talked about Supermanthe new adaptation about the Man of Steel whose first trailer will be released Thursday afternoon, focusing in particular on what he called “a complicated relationship” between Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) underlining that the audience will see something new on the screen regarding the two characters.
The relationship between David and Rachel’s characters on screen is something I don’t think I’ve ever seen – I hate to say things like that – but I don’t think it’s something we’ve ever seen in any superhero movie. A complicated relationship and we really get into it and there are long scenes that are about their relationship and how they relate and what it would be like for a person who is this incredibly intelligent, stubborn, stubborn, skeptical journalist to be in a relationship with someone who can lift a skyscraper.
Speaking about the sources of inspiration for the film, Gunn stated that past adaptations of the DC Comics hero also had a certain weight.
I think all the previous DC media influenced me. I think obviously Donner’s original film influenced me, but there’s also a lot of things that this one didn’t… Zack [Snyder] he did some excellent things. So there are many ways that these things have affected me. There’s a lot of ways that the DC animated universe has influenced me, and then there’s a lot of things from the comics, above and beyond anything else, All-Star Superman, that have influenced me more than anything else . To take that kind of Silver Age feel, that kind of sci-fi approach with gadgets, where Lex Luthor is really kind of a sorcerer in a way. He’s a scientist, but he’s so good at science and I think of him as a sorcerer.
