To make the next Superman, James Gunn candidly admitted that he was inspired by Top Gun: Maverick.
James Gunn he drew a lot of inspiration from the cinematic world, specifically for Superman he chose himself as his muse Top Gun: Maverickdirect sequel to Top Gun arrived at the cinema thirty years later starring once again Tom Cruise. But how did that film inspire the next Superman in the DCU?

James Gunn wanted to work on a new perspective for David Corenswetprotagonist of the next Superman that will officially launch the DCU on the big screen, who should fly expertly being one of the most beloved superheroes of all time. In this regard, James Gunn admitted that he drew inspiration from Top Gun: Maverick to depict the aerial action. To the microphones of ComicBookthe director revealed the link between the two films:
I wrote this big document about action and what our philosophy of action is and how we shoot it and what it is, and how to keep it alive in the air, as well as on the ground. And it’s hard to be able to shoot things in the sky as if we were shooting them, I also did it in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad. It’s really complicated. So we took inspiration from movies like Top Gun: Maverick because we also shot giant things flying. We shot a lot of our action scenes with real drones flying around Superman and some characters he fights in the air, like the Engineer. We did it on the sets.
