First statements from the English winger following his exclusion from the Manchester derby which took place last Sunday

“I feel misunderstood, but I’m fine with it. I’m a very simple person. I love football, it’s been my life from the beginning. It’s disheartening to be left out of a derby, but it happened. We won the game, so let’s move on. It’s disappointing, but I’m also someone who can handle setbacks as I get older. What will I do about it? I’m not going to sit there and cry, but I’m going to do my best the next time I’m available. Personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps in my journey. When I leave, there will be no hard feelings. You will not receive any negative comments from me about Manchester United. This is how I am as a person: if I know that a situation is already bad, I won’t make it worse. I’ve seen the way other players have left in the past and I don’t want to become part of that group. When I leave, I will make one statement and I will make it, because I will be a “Red”.

I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my best time to be now. I’ve played nine years in the Premier League so far and that’s taught me a lot, it’s helped me grow as a player and as a person, so I have no regrets about the last nine years. I will have no regrets in the future because I take things day by day and sometimes bad things happen, other times good things happen. I just try to keep a good balance. It still excites me to think about playing for my country in the biggest competition in the world. I’ve already had the chance to do it in the past (Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, ed.) and it’s an incredible experience. If I get the opportunity again, I’ll try to seize it with both hands“.
