The tragedy occurred last Saturday, in Cerneux, near Provins. A 74-year-old man wanted to relight the fire in his fireplace late in the afternoon. He used a flammable product and his house started to catch fire. According to our information, the septuagenarian managed to get his partner outside, but he returned to his house to try to put out the flames. A gesture which unfortunately proved fatal to him. The pensioner's body was discovered in the rubble. The fire brigade's intervention ended late in the evening.
