The Boghossian Foundation in Lebanon, led by Mary Boghossian Salamé, announced the winners of the 12th edition of its awards, honoring young Lebanese talents in the visual arts, cinema and children’s literature. The ceremony took place on the morning of November 28, 2024, in the foundation’s offices in Beirut, in the presence of the juries and numerous guests.
After rigorous deliberations, the members of the juries, composed of Lebanese and international experts, chose to reward talented candidates and highlighted the quality and creativity of the works presented, making their decision particularly difficult. The winners are:
– In the field of visual arts: Petram Chalach and Hussein Nassredine each won a prize of $3,000. The two winners as well as Mounia Riachi are also invited to an artistic residency at the Villa Empain, headquarters of the Boghossian Foundation in Brussels.
– For cinema: the “Coup de cœur” Prize, awarded in association with the Lebanon Cinema Foundation, was awarded to Joseph Khallouf, who was awarded $10,000 for his film Letters.
– In children’s literature: the prize, in association with the Assabil organization, was awarded to Jana Slaika and Basma Khatib who received the amount of $1,500 each for their manuscripts.
As for the jury, it was composed as follows:
– “Coup de coeur” cinema jury: Jean-Claude Codsi (director, filmmaker), May Coussa (film professor) and Gabriel Chamoun (Film Producer).
– Visual arts jury: Joseph Rustom (director of the Oriental Library of the Society of Jesus, associate professor at ESAR and former professor at ALBA), Charbel Samuel Aoun (multidisciplinary artist).
– Youth literature jury: Georgia Makhlouf (writer), Najla Khoury (specialist in Arabic verbal heritage in Lebanese villages) and Suzanne Abou Ghaida (writer and researcher in Arabic).
These distinctions “reflect the Boghossian Foundation’s faithful commitment to supporting emerging artists, to offering them unique opportunities for international influence and to encouraging Lebanese cultural diversity,” the foundation specifies in its press release.
