At the end of the day, three prizes were awarded: the adult readers’ prize, the librarians’ prize, and, new this year, the children’s prize.
Winners of the Read to Act prize:
Adult Readers’ Prize
Readers voted for Rising waters by Pierre Lieutaghi, published by Actes Sud, which won the Read to Act 2024 prize.
Librarian Awards
The librarians’ prize, awarded by a jury of 26 professionals, was awarded to Circuit Court: a history of the first AMAP by Claire Malary and Tristan Thil, published by Futuropolis.
Children’s prices
For the first time, a selection dedicated to children aged 6 to 11 made it possible to award a specific prize. Young readers chose Permavillage! The village of my dreams by Olivier Dain-Belmont and Fachri Maulana, published by Sarbacane editions.
A festive and engaged closing event
The closing day, organized at the Maison de l’Environnement, was punctuated by workshops and activities linked to the works in the selection. Among the activities offered: sewing book sleeves, introduction to embroidery, fresco of new stories, creation of a permavillage by children, making of committed badges, anti-waste cooking, plant-inspired artistic workshop, board games and many others. A friendly snack break allowed us to extend this afternoon in a warm atmosphere.
Before the announcement of the winners, a round table entitled “Cross the boundaries, there are no more limits…” brought together three authors from the selection: François d’Epenoux (Le Roi-nu-pieds), Corinne Morel Darleux (So we will find beauty elsewhere) and Tristan Thil (Circuit Court). The discussion, moderated by journalist Vincent Raymond, concluded with a signing session.
A look back at the award-winning works
Rising waters (South Acts)
This novel by Pierre Lieutaghi imagines a small community in the Alps faced with a major upheaval: the mountains become islands and the valleys are drowned under an immense gulf. Residents must relearn how to live independently, relying on solidarity and local resources.
Circuit Court: a history of the first AMAP (Futuropolis)
Claire Malary and Tristan Thil tell the story of the creation of the first French AMAP by Daniel and Denise Vuillon, organic farmers in the Var. This story returns to their struggles against mass distribution and for the dignity of farmers, while popularizing a model of organic and local agriculture.
Permavillage! The village of my dreams (Blowgun)
Olivier Dain-Belmont and Fachri Maulana tell the story of Camille, a young girl discovering the facets of an ecological permavillage during her vacation with her grandparents. This place harmoniously illustrates the cohabitation between man and nature.
All the books in the selection, for adults and children, are available at the Maison de l’Environnement media library. You can borrow them or consult them on site.
