The second day of hearing for the three alleged murderers of Romain Pizzato took place last Thursday in Tunisia. A new difficult stage for the victim’s mother, while another hearing is scheduled for February 2025.
Wiped out but still standing. Odile Pizzato, the mother of Romain Pizzato, found dead in September 2022 in Tunisia, attended the second hearing on Thursday December 5 at the Médenine court. She was able to confront her gaze with that of her son’s alleged murderers.
“Losing your child is terrible. But in this way… there are no words to describe what I’ve been going through from the beginning. I have no hatred, no revenge, it’s just my heart that is inhabited by this pain forever”, she testified, speaking to BFM DICI.
During the hearing, “they did not intervene at all, apart from their lawyers”, she regretted.
“Comforting death by suffocation”
An expeditious hearing this time, since the president of the court wanted to obtain new documents in the file, in particular the CDs of the hearings which he wanted to listen to again before the hearing.
“The defense lawyer for the two brothers asked that the forensic doctor be heard. Because, according to him, there would be contradictions between his two reports. It’s nonsense”, denounces Me Besma Maghrebi, the Odile Pizzato’s lawyer, for whom the involvement of the two brothers and Romain Pizzato’s former partner is beyond doubt.
“We asked to produce the French autopsy report which will confirm the death by suffocation and not by drowning,” concludes the Marseille lawyer.
A new hearing in February 2025
In September 2022the lifeless body of Romain Pizzato, a ski coach living in Saint-Pons (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), was found in his Tunisian villa. The autopsy carried out on the victim’s body concluded that he had died of strangulation. Traces of blows and scratches were also noted and the body of Romain Pizzato was found floating in his swimming pool.
Quickly, Ubayen’s ex-partner and two alleged accomplices were arrested and placed in pre-trial detention. “They are suspected of premeditated homicide. A penalty punishable by death penalty” Riadh Yangui, prosecutor of Médenine, told BFM DICI at the time.
“I believe in Tunisian justice. I would feel more serene when justice is done to him,” concludes the victim’s mother. The next hearing is scheduled for February 18, 2025 in Tunisia.
