There are once again two individuals wanted by the Luxembourg police on the Europol website, whose “Most Wanted” section brings together the most wanted criminals and miscreants in Europe.
After the arrest of Philippe W. in Athens, it is the turn of Ben Mahfoudh Montassar’s profile to appear in Europol’s Most Wanted. This 28-year-old man, of Tunisian nationality, has been on the run since an attempted murder committed in 2018 in the Grand Duchy for which he was sentenced in 2023 in absentia, four years after being released from pre-trial detention, but without having been arrested since.
His profile was added to the Europol list on Friday December 6.
A violent attempted murder
As Europol recalls, Ben Mahfoudh Montassar was convicted of attempted murder in 2018. The man, aged 22 at the time of the facts, attempted to kill a woman “by kneeling on her shoulders, ‘strangling and cutting off his breath at the neck, placing a pillow over his face and pressing hard’. Then, “he also hit his victim with his hands and elbow. He then violently attacked her with punches, kicks and metal-spiked gloves, causing her serious injuries and incapacity to work. In addition, he threatened her with a knife and verbally, and stole her identity card.”
According to information from our colleagues at Luxembourg wordthe attempted murder took place on December 21, 2018 in Vianden. The victim would be the ex-partner of Ben Mahfoudh Montassar, target of regular violence during their relationship.
The individual was identified by the Luxembourg judicial police and placed in pre-trial detention between December 2018 and July 2019 before being released. He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in 2023 by the Diekirch court. According to Europol, “the European and international arrest warrants were issued on March 15, 2024 by the delegate of the attorney general in charge of the Luxembourg judicial police.”
