Pro D2: FCG loses at Mont-de-Marsan but wins the defensive bonus point

After four consecutive victories in Pro D2, the frantic race of the FCG stopped on Friday December 6 on the pitch of the Stade Montois. The Grenoblois lost 30 to 26 but win the defensive bonus point. While awaiting the result of Brive against Béziers, they retain their seat as leader of the championship.

A terrible start to the second period

Penalized a lot in the first period, the Reds and Blues scored a try in the 25th minute thanks to a breakthrough from Rasaku and the finish from Barnabé Couilloud. At halftime, they were only four points behind and anything remained possible. But that was without counting on a big mistake which, in hindsight, probably cost FCG the victory. Returning from the locker room, Romain Fusier misses a pass which falls into the hands of Raphaël Robic. The Landes third line does not need to be asked and will flatten which allows the Montois to take 11 points in advance.

A drop festival

The FCG is then too imprecise on the sidelines and regularly gives possession back to Montois who can free themselves. In the 58th minute, Mont-de-Marsan recovered a throw within 22 meters of the FCG after a 50-22, enough to make the Grenoblois tremble! But they held on and, in the 62nd minute, reversed the trend by marking a nice try made by Romain Fusier. It was then that Marc Palmier, on the receiving end of a Mons kick, attempted a shot from the passing 50 meters. 10 minutes from the end of the match, they are only one point behind Mont-de-Marsan.

Except that during these 10 minutes, it was the Landais who initially put the pressure on and, in the 72nd minute, Du Plessis made a drop, his second of the match, which allowed his team to take a 4-point lead. The reaction then came from Barnabé Couilloud on the Red and Blue side. Five minutes from the end of the match, number 9 achieves a 50-22 which leads to great pressure from Grenoblois. Alas, they make a mistake, which spells the end of their hopes of victory.
