Tadej Pogacar and Lotte Kopecky won the 2024 Vélo d'Or which rewards the best professional cyclist each year. The ceremony took place this Friday evening in Paris.
Like every year in December, Bike Magazine attributes the “ Golden Bike » to the best runners in the professional peloton. This year, the trophy was awarded to the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and to Lotte Kopecky.
Vélo d’Or men: The ogre Pogacar alone in the world
If some years there is suspense in order to know the best rider of the season, this time there was very little suspense given the incredible domination of Tadej Pogacar in 2024. Author of the double Giro-Tour, winner of two Monuments (Liège-Bastogne-Liège et Tour of Lombardy), world champion and having raised his arms 25 times, the Slovenian prodigy logically won the 2024 Vélo d'Or, his second after 2021.
Vélo d’Or women: Lotte Kopecky queen of 2024
Among women, she is the world champion Lotte Kopecky who won the trophy for best cyclist of the year. Her second consecutive world champion title and her first victory over Paris-Roubaix took over the coronation of the Polish woman Katarzyna Niewiadoma on the Tour de France.
Note that Pauline Ferrand–Provostwinner of Olympic gold in mountain biking this summer, won the « Trophy Daniel Morelon » rewarding the best French rider for men and women in the Olympic disciplines of BMX, mountain biking and track. Romain Bardet wins the “Trophy Bernard Hinault » , rewarding the best French men and women road runner.
