The Dakar Jaraaf is facing severe sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). During a meeting held on December 19, 2024, the CAF disciplinary body decided to heavily punish the Senegalese club following violent incidents that occurred during its CAF Cup match against USM Alger, played on December 8 at Abdoulaye Wade Stadium.
Despite a final score of 0-0, tensions erupted off the field, causing several injuries, including among supporters of the Algerian club and Senegalese personalities. Although some testimonies mention initial provocations from Algerian supporters, CAF deemed Jaraaf responsible for the excesses. The club was thus sanctioned with four matches behind closed doors in interclub competition, two of which were suspended. These suspended matches will only be applied in the event of a repeat offense within the next 12 months. In addition, a fine of 50,000 dollars (31.5 million FCFA) was imposed, half of which will be canceled if no incident occurs in the same period. These disciplinary measures surprised many observers, especially since some believe that USM Algiers played a role in the tensions.
Jaraaf, currently third in its group with two points, is due to host Opara United on January 5 in Dakar. He has three days to appeal this decision, otherwise the sanctions will become final.
