Following her feat in the national final of the Intercollegiate Games, where she won the gold medal in the hammer throw, the athlete from San Agustín, Laura Katalina Cerón Delgado, is participating today in the XXVIII South American School Games 2024 which take place in Bucaramanga.
On November 22, during the national final of the Intercollegiate Games, the promising young athlete from Huila, Laura Katalina Cerón Delgado, won the gold medal in the hammer throw with a remarkable throw of 47.16 meters.
After this significant achievement, the native of San Agustín prepared extensively for her participation in the XXVIII South American School Games 2024, which is being held in the city of Bucaramanga.
“I am very happy with the medal I won at the Intercollegiate Games; Now I am focusing on my participation in the South American School Games. I trained well for this competition, and I hope to give the best of myself and bring back a medal for my municipality and my department,” expressed the athlete in an interview with LA NACIÓN.
The Competition
The XXVIII South American School Games 2024 welcomes 1,764 participants, including athletes aged 12 to 14, coaches, delegates and officials. This annual event, organized by CONSUDE since 1991, is the main sporting event for students in South America, contributing to the development of sport, culture and exchanges between young people from the 10 participating nations.
What about the Intercollegiate Games?
The pre-youth category of the national final of the Intercollegiate Games is now over. In team sports, École Piaget won a silver medal in women’s basketball.
“Huila is performing brilliantly in the Intercollegiate Games, currently ranking among the top 10 regions in the country. In the pre-youth category, we won a silver medal in team sports with the Piaget School in women’s basketball,” highlighted Frank García, the coordinator of the Intercollegiate Games in Huila.
“As a department we aspire to continue to achieve medals in the youth category. École Piaget continues to compete in volleyball and basketball. These competitions are scheduled from December 9 to 15, closing the 2024 events,” added this official.

Finally, García stressed that the general outcome of the Intercollegiate Games was largely positive. He also expressed high hopes for Laura Katalina Cerón Delgado’s performance at the South American School Games.
“The overall results of the Intercollegiate Games are more than positive; we have already qualified for an international competition and we have high expectations for the athlete Laura Katalina Cerón Delgado in the hammer throw. She is from San Agustín, and there is no doubt that this performance marks a historic moment for our department,” concluded García.
