Being a night nurse is a job that requires strong resilience and good organization. While bonuses make the salary more attractive, they do not always compensate for the sacrifices. In a report, the information site, Nurses, deciphers the salary slips of various nurses, including a night nurse: Malik, aged 32 and graduated in 2014.
A nurse's salary depends on several factors, including their seniority, their place of work (public hospital, private clinic, specialized establishment), and their geographic location. Working at night brings additional bonuses, which vary depending on collective agreements and establishments.
“The night salary is only made up of bonuses, which are not counted towards retirement”
During his career, Malik was able to experience different positions, both in the public and private sectors, in emergency rooms during the day and in night work. The current salary of this nurse, who therefore works at night in a cardiological intensive care unit, amounts to 2,756 euros gross, or 2,118 euros net, thanks in particular to the Ségur bonus.
To this figure must be added a bonus for intensive care nurses of 118 euros net monthly, as well as an increase in night work. He thus receives 38 euros gross per night. “ The night salary is only made up of bonuses, which are not counted for retirement », he recalls. “ We have still made big progress since Covid with Ségur, but we remain behind compared to European salaries. »
“The basic problem is not addressed: pressure, turnover”
On the other hand, for the young man, the problem lies elsewhere. “ Working conditions remain the initial problem. We are being held back with bonuses or upgrades but the underlying problem is not addressed: pressure, turnover. We are no longer able to retain caregivers and young graduates “, he believes.
« In the public sector, we are moving closer and closer to private management, to the detriment of the quality of life at work. We are entering into a dynamic of profitability, of limiting financial losses when we know that health is not profitable. »
While Malik says he loves his job, which brings him adrenaline and variety on a daily basis, he worries about the working conditions. “ For example, we are being increased but additional tasks are being added to us such as scanning files, formerly carried out by medical secretaries, or ordering equipment…» Despite the efforts of recent years, the account is not there.
