The profession of state-certified nurse anesthetist (IADE) is one of the most specialized and empowering in the nursing field. As an IADE, the professional works in the heart of operating theaters, recovery rooms and sometimes in intensive care, playing a key role in patient safety. But how much do you really earn from this profession?

Julien, 30, has been a nurse anesthetist at a university hospital since October 2023. He agreed to comment on his pay slip for the site Nurseswith four other professionals in the field. Having graduated in July 2016, he began his career at the public hospital receiving 1,625.66 euros net and 2,025.66 euros gross (including compensation of 400 euros for his 3rd year internship).

During his years of practice, he benefited from a revaluation of 155.44 euros thanks to the Ségur de la santé agreements in July 2020. Currently, after completing his training, he is placed in echelon 2 and receives 2865.73 euros gross, i.e. a net before tax of 2413.71 and a net after tax of 2281.25 euros. Last December, he received an inflation bonus of 301.63 euros net.

“We work in collaboration with anesthetists and surgeons: the responsibilities are important”

« Overall, we remain poorly paid as nurses, compared to the responsibilities of the profession », declares Julien. “ This is even more true as a nurse anesthetist, when you work in close collaboration with medical anesthetists and surgeons and the responsibilities are even greater. »

Despite his Master's training to become an IADE, he believes that the increase in salary is not notable. “ Before I felt that my salary allowed me to live comfortably, but inflation has made me poorer. Personally, I still saw the difference with Ségur, which coincided with my tenure: my salary increased by €400 in the space of a month. This is what allowed me to get a loan and access the property “, he specifies.

“We have constraints: I, for example, work at night”

If the private sector allows you to start with higher salaries, the young man is aware that progress is slower than in the public sector. “ Currently, we are going through a big crisis of attractiveness and salary remains an important element. We have constraints: for example, I work at night, I have guards… Our conditions are difficult. If the salary does not follow, neither does the attractiveness ».
