Every year on Sainte-Catherine's Day, the elected officials of the Ariège commune plant a tree that is close to their hearts.
Francis Laguerre has been mayor for four terms. Every November 25, he established what has become a tradition. That day is the putting into practice of the saying: “On Sainte-Catherine, all wood takes root”. The mayor explains: “Thanks to the Regional Natural Park, we received a rural amenities grant of 4,000 euros for our actions relating to biodiversity, maintenance of the terraces along the Ariège, the forest trails, the shared garden”
Among these actions, there is notably the planting of trees, as the first councilor explains: “For Saint Catherine's Day, we have gotten into the habit of each new municipal councilor planting the tree of their choice. Covid did not allow this to be done at the start of the mandate. There is no shortage of planting places, as long as the tree is happy to grow there. »

Among the advisors, describes the mayor, Sophie chose to plant Chasselas vines in exchange for a tartar; Lionel opted for the fig tree, in honor of the elders, and for sharing the figs that overflow on the paths. Aurore chose the cherry tree with large stones, like those of Ciraret. Sandrine wished that in the hamlet of Pech, there would be an old apple tree. Pascal planted a chestnut tree in Pech, recalling the castagnade and the pre-eminence of this tree in Ariège. Edouard chose the olive tree because it reminds him of the bodies of water he frequented, on the edge of Ariège.
This year, Jean-Pierre Casta planted an olive tree, a symbol of peace, prosperity, hope and longevity for him. The tree is planted between the town hall and the new municipal building, next to the so-called Revolution lime tree because it was planted in 1989.
