“I have always been attracted to this profession, my dad was already a professional firefighter (still working) and I couldn't see myself doing anything else. » Today, corporal (since April 2024), Maxime Caramona was kind enough to talk about this profession, he who, from the age of 14, had worn the costume of the young firefighters (JSP) of the Bazas/Auros section (Gironde) .
His journey
The young South Girondin became a volunteer firefighter in July 2016. After completing his baccalaureate, he began studying economics, but not for long. The job of firefighter is made for him! Assigned to the Meudon barracks, he will be military firefighter from 21 to 27 years oldat the Paris fire brigade.
The first class soldier becomes the driver of the van; bearer of the large ladder and his main role: supplying the tank with water and directing the ladder, which he climbed several times.
Intense and eventful years, made of friendship and solidarity.
“I was in first class and an apartment fire broke out on the 6th floor. It was dangerous, but this fire did not cause any casualties. »
Solidarity
Maxime found this solidarity here in South-Gironde, in Bazas and Auros; at the SDIS (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service) of Gironde. In addition, the Auros volunteer firefighter and his 25 comrades intervene in 6 municipalities: Auros, Berthez, Brannens, Brouqueyran Lados et Savignac.
Training young firefighters
Maxime Caramona is a leader of young firefighters aged 14 to 18 in the Bazas Auros section. On Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon, around thirty of them receive fire and first aid courses, do sports: races, and team sports, to perhaps be recruited from the age of 18 as a volunteer firefighter in the sector. “In this regard, we are recruiting girls or boys in the Auros Firefighters sector (18 years old), ” he informs. At the association of the Amicale des sapeurs d'Auros, where he is president, and which has nothing to do with the SDIS, there are 25 volunteer firefighters, plus the veterans, but also the widows of the firefighters.
Together, they participate in the life of the Association. The aim of the association: the sale of calendars, the organization of the July 14 ball, plus 2 or 3 family outings.
“We support the work of the nation's firefighters,” remarks the young corporal who is also a leader of young firefighters aged 14 to 18 from the Bazas Auros section. A vocation that he certainly wishes to pass on!
