The occupant of a home in the QB district in the Sainte-Foy sector was left with quite a scare on Sunday when the explosion of the battery of her laptop led to the start of a fire.
The events occurred a little after 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening. A laptop that was plugged in sat on an armchair with a fabric cushion. Smoke came from the device and the battery began to swell and finally exploded.
Flames appeared following the explosion.
“The lady extinguished the flames with water, placed the device on the ground and took the couch outside,” explains Bill Noonan, spokesperson for the Quebec City Fire Prevention Service. (SPCIQ).
The woman suffered no injuries. The damage caused by the disaster – namely the armchair and traces of fire on the floor – did not prevent him from returning to his accommodation.
The SPCIQ spokesperson points out that it is very important to put your laptop in a safe place, especially when it is charging.
“Often the ventilation system is located underneath laptops. In this case, the ventilation was blocked and it overheated,” explains Mr. Noonan.
