Since the announcement of his signing in Toulouse in the press, he had not spoken. Until then. Teddy Thomas has finally broken the silence and has therefore confirmed his departure from La Rochelle at the end of the season, as well as his signing of a three-year contract for Stade Toulousain.
It was with Rugbyrama that the Stade Rochelais center-winger explained the reasons for this signing. With great honesty, he confesses that Toulouse's offer was contractually very interesting (which Ronan O'Gara had also said in the “Off The Ball” podcast). And then we have to admit it: Toulouse is Toulouse. Toulouse is a little above everything else in rugby at the moment.
“I have always admired Toulouse”
How can you refuse to join a club that wins all the titles? Even Yoram Moefana, who decided to stay in Bordeaux, admitted that it was not easy to say no. And for Teddy Thomas, saying no to the club that made him dream so often was just impossible.
I've been playing at La Rochelle for three years now, a club where I feel good and where the group trusts me. It's never easy to leave a club. Unfortunately, there is also the contractual part that comes into play, and in terms of contract years. Stade Toulouse made me a much more attractive offer.
I always admired Toulouse when I was young, and when a club of this standing calls you to offer you a three-year contract, it's still difficult to refuse. I spoke about it with La Rochelle, they were always aware of my discussions with Toulouse. Despite this, they preferred to offer me only two years. I respect and understand this decision, but that is why I will leave at the end of the season for Stade Toulouse.
And here is a new star of French rugby, a new international who has joined the ranks of Stade Toulousain.
To summarize
Since the announcement of his signing in Toulouse in the press, he had not spoken. Until then. Teddy Thomas has finally broken the silence and has therefore confirmed his departure from La Rochelle at the end of the season. The reasons for this signing are multiple: a more contractually interesting offer, and also, obviously, the status and aura of the club.
