The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, went to Kyiv this Monday, December 2, during a surprise trip to reaffirm his support for Ukraine in the war between it and Russia. A meeting during which he also announced the upcoming delivery of new military aid.

650 million euros. This is the amount of new military aid promised by Olaf Scholz, the German chancellorduring his visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, and which should be delivered in December.

According to the German daily Die Rheinpfalz, these 650 million euros should make it possible to finance combat tanks, missilesdrones and anti-aircraft systems.

In detail, 4,000 drones from the German company Helsingwhich can be used against armored vehicles, will be delivered by the end of the year. But also “two Iris-T air defense systems, ten Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks60 infantry fighting vehicles and M84 and M80 main battle tanks as well as 6,000 unguided missiles and 500 guided missiles.

Still according to our colleagues, almost 28 billion euros in military aid (the 650 million euros are included) have been paid by Germany to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022.

No Taurus long-range missiles

However, Berlin still refuses to deliver Taurus long-range missiles who have the capacity to travel nearly 500 kilometers, for fear of inflaming the conflict, despite the requests of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The country also reaffirmed that German weapons cannot be used on Russian soil. An exception remains for German Mars II rocket launchers, with a range of 84 kilometers, which are authorized in “the region around the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv”.
