Motorway toll prices will indeed increase again in 2025. This will be reflected in the bills of users of these sections. Fortunately, the increase should be brought under control in the coming months. It would only be 0.92% on average in 2025, according to a source close to the matter cited by BFMTV.
This would make it an increase lower than that forecast by the Banque de France for the coming year in France. But also an average increase “lower” than that experienced in 2018 and also in 2019. “Either before the health crisis and before the energy shock linked to the war in Ukraine”, according to this same source, on condition of anonymity. Elements also confirmed by figures from Le Parisien or by the entourage of the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, François Durovray:
“This decision is the result of a real battle that the minister led to defend the purchasing power of the French, as he knows the daily weight that mobility represents in the household budget.”
The calm after the storm for toll prices?
This increase will occur from February 1, 2025. It will be much less significant than in previous years. This year, it was 3% on average. Even worse in 2023, with no less than 4.75% increase. Blame it on inflation, the war in Ukraine or even the energy shock.
This increase is also calculated on the price of investments to be made for dealers. Because the end of the concessions is planned in just a few years, between 2031 and 2036. However, the concessionaires must return these motorway sections in good condition. And this will require heavy investments.
Thus, the Transport Regulatory Authority (ART) looked into the subject. In a report published this Saturday, it estimates that companies would have to spend no less than 10.3 billion euros in investments in order to return the infrastructure to good condition by the end of the contracts. What will influence prices in the future?
